Sierra Foothill Conservancy
Regenerative Grazing, Healthier Land, and a Preserve Full of Life.
The 226-acre Stookey Preserve was permanently protected by Sierra Foothill Conservancy in 2021 with the help of the Wildlife Conservation Board. Visitors will enjoy a tour of SFC’s recently implemented habitat restoration project with grant funding from Point Blue Conservation Science and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program. The project focuses on removing invasive plant species and planting 2,000 native plants selected for pollinator habitat and cultural significance.
This restoration was done in partnership with the Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation, who will continue to tend and harvest in the restoration area for traditional uses. Ongoing restoration plans on the property include continued regenerative grazing and a large-scale forest health project to be implemented this fall with the support of CAL FIRE’s Forest Health Grant Program. This project supports SFC’s mission to build a more fire- and climate-resilient landscape.
We would like to extend great appreciation to the many volunteers and Tribal partners who helped implement this project. The current projects are helping realize SFC’s goal to restore and enhance the property’s many conservation values, including soil health, water quality, and forest resiliency.
